What about Christianity?

Some people feel that Christianity has had its day. Its links with the crusades and colonialism have given it historical baggage that many feel is incompatible with our diverse, globalised society. But does Christianity really have nothing to offer?

small picture   Where does the name Christian come from?
Was it Jesus Christ? The apostle Paul? The first Pope?
small picture   What are ‘followers of Christ’?
Are they the same as Christians? Or a new sect?
small picture   What is the link between Christianity and Western culture?
Some people think Christianity is as British as fish and chips and as American as Apple Pie, but is it really that simple?
small picture   The Western dream or nightmare?
Christians in the West are struggling today to disentangle those elements of Western culture which have truly been influenced by Christian values over the centuries, from those which have no connection or are even opposed.
small picture   Isn’t there a link between Christianity and colonialism?
Wasn't Western imperialism about going with a Bible in one hand and a gun in the other?
small picture   Is Christianity responsible for racist attitudes?
Christians have supported apartheid and slavery. Does the Bible teach racism?
small picture   Is there a link between Christianity and South Asia?
The message of Jesus came to India before it came to Britain.
small picture   Who wrote the Bible?
Is the Bible just for Christians? Has it been corrupted? What kind of book is it? Is it reliable?

Left: A church in Goa, India. Christianity took root in the Indian subcontinent from the earliest times.
